ACTIVITY 6: MY LIFE AS A YOUNG LIFE
- MELLIN NATASIA CHANG (72929)
My name is Mellin Natasia Chang. I am 21 years old. I was born at Hospital Besar Daerah Lawas on 13 June 1999. I have six siblings which is 2 boys and 4 girls. I am the youngest child in my family. My father’s name is Chang Paril and he is 60 years old already however my mother’s name is Naomi Agag and she is 53 years old. Their nation is Lun Bawang same goes to me.I was born in a little family which is with my father, mother and the other siblings. My father’s was a driver lorry and my mother was a housewife.
My childhood was spent in a small village which live at my father’s hometown. I start my education in primary school at Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Tuma where I finished my UPSR at 2011. When I was 7 years old, I was too lazy to sit in a hostel because I was not used to being with the other people. To me, I am child that I can’t to communicate with each other at the hostel, so that I could not get used to my surroundings. I always cry and I want my parents to take me home. When I was 9 years old, I can familiarize myself with the situation at school and be able to stay in the dormitory as well. It was until I finished my primary school.
I started my secondary school at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merapok where I finished PT3 at 2014 and finished my SPM at 2016. I achieve a good result in SPM, I choose to take STPM and I was studied at Pra Universiti Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merapok. I get a good pointer (CGPA) in STPM.
My life goal is to make my parents to be proud of me and make them live comfortable the way I want. Like Vannevar Bush said “There must be a goal at every stage of life! There must be a goal”. From this words, it is more gives inspiration for me and for my whole life. When I was finished my STPM, I continue my studies at University Malaysia Sarawak(UNIMAS) in Bachelor of Counseling with Honors for 4 years. I was in my second semester and there are6 more semester to go. I wish I can repay my parents service sacrifice by making a good result in my Degree and getting a good job for the next days.
My motto in my life is ‘In order to succeed, we must believe that we can’. This motto makes me feel I can do what I want and I deserve to have what I want. So that, I need to be a strongest person through this life and learn to not hear what the others think about my life.
MILESTONES
A milestone is a significant in your life and it is the event that will always to be our memories. There are milestone that will be marks in our life the day we start a new chapter of our life. For example, the day you graduated from high school was a milestone in your life. Firstly, it is about our achievements along the way as a student are unforgettable and overwhelming memories.

Everyone has their own culture following their own nation. My nation is Lunbawang. The origin of the Lunbawang tribe is believed to be from central Borneo island. The Lunbawang are mostly found in Limbang Division of Sarawak, Malaysia, especially in and around Lawas Town. Some notable and historical are Long Semadoh, Ba’Kelalan and Long Luping in the highlands. These are beautiful villages and widely claimed by visitors are the most beautiful places on earth. Peaceful, cool and natural with extremely friendly people.
Lunbawang people celebrate Irau Aco Lunbawang (Lunbawang Festival) annually on the first of June in Lawas, Sarawak. This festival is traditionally a celebration of the rice harvest, but now it showcases a variety of Lunbawang culture and events such as RuranUlung(beauty pageant contest) and Padan Liu Burung(partner of RuranUlung), nengalubalaya (membuat nasi bungkus), ‘angklung’ performance and ngiupsuling (bamboo musical instrument band). Lunbawang festival has become a culture among the Lunbawang people where they will wear traditional clothes that mark their celebration of their nation. In Sipitang district of Sabah, SabahanLunbawang and Lundayeh celebrates the harvest festival (kaamatan) biennially during the Festival of GATA (gasing and tamubesar) during traditional dances and costumes are being showcased along with those of native ethnics in district such as the Murut, Kedayan and Brunei Malay people.
What I have gained in celebrating my culture is, to understanding each and every culture that has been passed down through the ages. By adopting this culture, I and the next generation can strengthen this community for the future.

The biggest milestone in my life as a student is to make our parents proud of us even it is just a little achievement. I still remember the smiles on my parents face when I got a good result in UPSR, PT3, SPM and STPM. When I was in UPSR student, I promise to myself to get a good result as I can. I want to make my parents to be proud of me. As a UPSR student, I need to do my best and this is one of the first things I do in my life as a child. It is to be my responsible to my parents. I need to do my best to make my parents proud of my accomplishments. I was the youngest child where my hopes for success were great for my family because they wanted me to study in university. At last is, my UPSR exam was pass and I happy with what I make to myself.
When I was in form 3 which is PT3 exam and it was our batch 99’s sit a different exam than before. I was trying to get the best of it and finally I has a good result for my PT3 exam even though it is not like the others result as well. my parents also said this is a beginning of me as a student and those words were encouraging for me to continue my school.
It is when I was finished my SPM and I has a good result. Actually I has my own planning on my future after my secondary school. I just want to get some jobs and can find my own money to help my family. But for this planning, my parents want me to continue studying if I have offer of admission in STPM and I just followed what their want. And finally, I continue my study to be STPM student that I has a good result. I choose to continue my study in form 6 because it is easy to me to continue in University.
When I entered form 6. I had hopes that I would do my best to get into university. The short step to continuing the school is form 6 because it didn’t waste my time getting a bachelor’s degree. During my studies at form 6, the opportunity to study at university is huge. That is a one of advantage. However, disadvantage of form 6 is the lack of time. It is because we inky have 1 years 6 months. It is not enough to us to prepare our self to get the great pointer or do some assignment. So that, if someone can’t focused to study, there is nothing hopes to continue study at university.
As we know, parents are the backbone that always behind us to continue to be a successful person to be. They are our strength in continuing our lives. Without them we as a student can’t be a successful person and they always support in every our decision.

Realizing one’s passion is one of the most important milestones for achieving self-actualization. For me, the first time I realize that I am interested to be a teacher when I was form 5 and finished my form 6. I was interested in being a teacher because I used to play as a teacher when I was child. I play with my neighbor and she act to be my student while I’ll be her teacher. I also interested to be teacher because I made my cousin an inspiration for me to become a teacher after I finished my study. After the STPM exam. I got a good result but the opportunity to become a teacher is not great. I know that things did not get easily as I think, my result just 2.17 for the overall. So that, I really confuse and at the same time I think my dream to continue my study at University then to be a teacher will not come true. I feel afraid of what will happen for my future.
After a several months, I have a school offer from University Sarawak Malaysia which offers a cost counselling. I very thankful of this offer and I think this cost will help me to achieve what I want such as to be counselling teacher at secondary school. So that, I want to prepare everything and to be smart person to get my dream come true. I believe that through that process I will trying to get what I want to be and make my parents proud of me.

When I was in UNIMAS, my first day was with a newcomer and I was a bit embarrassed by the other friends because they were mostly Iban people. so I was a little weird to communicate with them. It is hard for me to understand their language. So from this different language, I expert that I can’t have many people to communicate because I do not understand their language that make me feel I will not has many friends. However, my impression is incorrect. With this many languages that I know, I can also learn many languages and have a lots of friends. In UNIMAS, I also learn how to be independent person. I need to be strong because there is no family with me when I was mad, sad or something I want. I need to practice myself to not to expect the help of others. So, at a young age, I could learn to live by myself without my family by myself and to learn more about what is going on in this life.
REFLECTION
Erikson proposed that we are motivated by the need to achieve competence in certain areas of our lives. Erikson’s theory described the impact of social experience across the whole lifespan.
At the young stage, as we know people tend to seek to championship and love. In this stage, young adults are still eager to blend their identities with friends. Not only that, Erikson believes we are sometimes due to intimacy. In this stage also we are familiar with pain and to some of the rejection is so painful and we cannot bear it. They also become more adept at forming sincere relationships and make them feel happy with their own decision.
CONCLUSION
In this conclusion is Erikson’s theory characterizes an individual advancing through the eight life stages as a function of their biological. The young adult faces more challenging in their life stage.
