ACTIVITY 2 : BABIES

The babies documentary show the life of four babies comes from Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Tokyo. The babies is Ponijao from Opuwo, Namibia, Mari from Tokyo, Japan, Bayarjargal from Bayanchandmachi, Mongolia, and Hattie from San Francisco, California. All of them has different cultural and different life environment. For example, Ponijao and Bayar born at home due to their poor family condition while Mari and Hattie was born at the hospital due to their good family financial condition.All of them was born healthy.

All the four babies is at their infancy to toddlerhood period which is the part of early human development. Infancy to toddlerhood stages from birth to 3 years old and took part in their physical body, cognitive and psychosocial the four babies develop all those skills based on different environment.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

The babies in physical development shows the ability to explore and interact with their environment. for instance, the baby would often crawl to other places to explore own their environment out of curious.

Ponijiao does not have enough much healthy food for her. This is because the most healthy food for her is breast milk as it is nutritious and digestible. However, even though she lived in a rural area, she still grows up with good healthy. When she felt nervous, scared and hungry, her mother rushing to feed her with breast milk and makes her claim down. This action will made her keep sucking other’s skin, hands, this action made her has thick lips.

Next, Bayar was born in a hospital with a health condition. He different from Ponijao because he was wrapped tightly to keep warm. After few days lying on the bed, he started to wake up by sitting on the bed. When he started to learn crawl, he usually use to crawl from the yurt outside to the field indicates that. So that, he does not have many problems with his gross motor skills.

Mari was born healthily in a hospital with many medicine equipment differ with Ponijao and Bayar. Her life was raised up by both of her parents. Her parents set a enough milk to see that their daughter also grew healthily as she gets enough breast milk from her mother. Mari can consider is an active girl because as she learned how to crawl in order to get the ball by itself. Moreover, when she started learning how to stand up, she will hold the leg of the chair as a support.

Hattie was born in a birthing center surrounded by medical equipment and technicians. She born at expensive hospital different with Ponijao, Bayar, and Mari Every month, her parents will bring her to do a health checkup. The nurse also taught her mother how step to giving a milk while she hungry to drink. She was born and grew up in a good condition.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

The videos in “babies” includes their intelligence, language development, reasoning, and information processing. each of the four babies had a different environment for their to interact from the start.The all four babies used Piagetion approach. This approach look changes, reflection from their parents. It is concerned with how mind structure it is activates to the environment. (Papalian, Feldman 2012, p.144)

For instance, Mari and Hattie were from the modern cities where they had a lot of toys and objects to interact with. But sadly not for Ponijao and Bayar that were born in environment where they had nature to stay with animal, rocks, and sticks. Their different life shows us the impacted on their cognitive development differently.

For example, Bayar only have animals and nature things in their environment in his place. There will be a slight different surronding.

For Mari was happy to play around with the disks, papers. When she first time went to the toy department, she was curious, widened her eyes and looked around. It shows Mari was curious about the things that surrounded, but she does not have much chance to explore it as she was under her parents’ control.

For Ponijao he more take his brother as the role model, where he follow what his brother doing.

Last but not least Hattie would smile back to his parents because his parents good interact with him. Hattie showed a good development in cognitive as such as she able to peel off the banana skin by itself. She knew to peel off the banana before eating bevause follow what her parents teach. Moreover, she faster to able learn what her parents pronounce, for example, she learned how to pronounce “woof” after repeating by her mother say.

PSYCHOSOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Psychosocial development consists of emotions, temperament, thought, and behaviour that makes a person unique. one baby may be cheerful and another easily upset. (Papalia & Feldman, 2012, p.176) .

The babies show difference emotions respectively such as sadness, joy and poor. For Ponijao, he surround by all the villagers but yet no over-protected. He not aware or fear to stay at the villagers. The villagers that he stay were kind to his, played with his and even sometimes helped his mother to do all things. Especially for Ponijao doesn’t have many problems when interacting with other. Futhermore, he showed different interaction with animals and environment which don’t show the other babies. Things that unexpected he kissed the dog, played with the dog and even pulled its tongue without fear.

Bayar more close with nature. He did not feel scared at all when interacting with the animal and even play with it. Bayar started to act little violent because hitting and bullying the other children or animals like goats.

Next, for Mari was started frust when she failed to played her toy. She even disturbed her parents by messing up the papers and disks to attract their parents, and she failed to do it. Mari felt scared and cried when her mother took her to the zoo and had a near observation to the animals. This showed that Mari has unaware as she does not know to control her emotion.

Hattie’s parents used to spend a lot of time with her and bring her out to explore more things. Her life perfect because care by her parents. They also read her storybook, so that she can learned faster. But, Hattie’s was hard to interact and communicate with other except her parents. She was more to comfortable play alone at home from see many people outside. She also scared to interact with the cat when it is behind her.

CONCLUSION

The overall reaction of documentary is about the babies have a way of life that different in growing up. We can see that different life really affect us with cognitive, physical an also psychosocial. From this documentary, I can find the documentary to be very engrossing as I was able to see how the environment you were born in can shape you to be the person you are today. These babies develop accordingly from their physical, cognitive and psychosocial aspect to enable them to live, survive and adapt to their surroundings. However, the quality, quantity, stability, and type of care have some influence on psychosocial and cognitive development, the influence of family characteristics seems greater.
